In response to escalating US-China trade tensions and increased tariffs, Tesla has ceased sales of its Model S and Model X vehicles in China. The company removed the “Order Now” button from its Chinese website and shifted production focus to more affordable models manufactured domestically at its Shanghai facility. This strategic move is designed to mitigate the financial impact of tariffs and sustain competitiveness in a challenging market environment.
Tesla's factory in Shanghai only produces the carmaker's more affordable models, with the Model S and X imported from the U.S.
Tesla removed the Model S/X 'Order Now' button on its Chinese site amid US-China tariff hikes. The change affects a small yet profitable market segment and reflects broader trade tensions that are disrupting global supply chains.
